- Third Place: Buck Moon, Ilona Linnoila
Ilona Linnoila ~ Buck Moon
The full moon of July is called Buck Moon because male deer (bucks) are starting to grow their antlers at this time. I was on a mountain top at 3000 feet. Unfortunately, the moon rose behind clouds. A little bit later clouds departed and I was able to get this photo. It was unique as both the clouds and moon appeared visible in one exposure. f/8 with 600 mm telephoto lens using tripod.
Intermediate Projected
- First Place: Young Leopard, Kent Morris
- Second Place: Grazing White Rhino, Kent Morris
- Third Place: Catching a Foothold, Jim Riley
- Honorable Mention: Milky Way, Tanya Riseman
Kent Morris ~ Young Leopard
The Young Leopard was taken on a late afternoon game drive in the Okonjima Nature Reserve in central Namibia. The leopard was preparing to climb up into a tree where the leopard’s mother and a sibling were located. In the tree was a remains of a springbok the mother leopard had killed and brought up into the tree for her and her offspring to eat. Canon R5 mk ii, Canon EF 100-400 L. Focal length: 400mm, f/5.6, 1/2500 sec, ISO: 4000.
Novice Projected
- First Place: Ranthambore Lake, Tom McLaughlin
- Second Place: Heron in Flight, Owen Epstein
Tom McLaughlin ~ Ranthambore Lake
This was taken in the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajahstan, India. We spent a morning being bounced around over awful dirt tracks ostensibly looking for tigers. We saw a few deer, but no tigers. When we stopped at a small lake I spotted a large bird on a branch. I first thought the shot was ruined when it took flight just as I hit the shutter. I cropped it and airbrushed out a bit of distracting vegetation in one corner.
Print Image Competition
Combined Print
- First Place: Forest Friends, Will Rabinovich
- Second Place: Sea Stack Sunset, Will Rabinovich
- Third Place: Ripples and Lily Pads, Sherm Edwards
- Honorable Mention: Murmuration, Ilona Linnoila
Will Rabinovich ~ Forest Friends
This image was taken in Redwoods National Park during a very foggy morning. The fog was just starting to clear which resulted in “spotlight” on the rhododendron. I was trying to capture the size difference between the plant and the redwood tree. Taken with a Sony ARIV at 60 mm. Printed with an Epson P800 on Red River Ultrasatin Pro paper.
