Welcome to the Silver Spring Camera Club. Visitors and new members are invited to our public meetings, which take place the first three Thursdays of every month, September through May. We also welcome you to our field trips. Signups are through Meetup.

Meetings are either in-person, or virtual on Zoom.

The first meeting of the month is our speaker night, held virtually.

In person meetings will take place on the second Thursday of each month, and will generally be our competition. In person meetings are held at Christ the King Presbyterian Church (formerly called Northwood Presbyterian Church), 1200 University Boulevard West, Silver Spring, MD.

On the third Thursday of each month we hold a virtual meeting. This will generally be our Photo Forum which includes discussion, member presentations, and photo sharing.

I took this image in the Japanese Garden at Hillwood. It was mid-morning, and the woods were backlit by lovely morning sunlight, which highlighted the autumn colors. I used intentional camera movement to create an impressionistic look, while still attempting to retain detail in the leaves.

The dragonflies were enjoying the lotus blossoms in Kennilworth, even when they were way past their prime. I really liked the shape of the lotus seed pod, and the green leaf was a great backdrop for this particular dragonfly.

The picture was taken on a field trip to the West Virginia Penitentiary in Moundsville, WVa in the summer of 2023. Old cells had lots of prisoners’ art, which was often quite vulgar. They also contained patches of very bright colors that caught my eye. (Sony 7r IV with Sony FE 70-200mm F4 G OSS lens. 0.4 sec, f/9.0, ISO 800.)
