Secretary: (Miriam)Minutes for previous meeting (October 26, 2023) has been updated. Minutes of the October 26, 2023 meeting were read.

Treasurer:(Bruce)

Report: Bruce reported that we picked up a new member this week (Karen Kane), bringing our membership total to 80- exactly the number we finished with last year. Karen is the 12th new member this year. There was discussion about whether the voice amplifier works. It was retested and there is a volume control that will be tried at the next competition meeting.

We donated $110 to the MD Food bank we received from MPA

Income: Current total in checking account: $8,458.00

Expenses to date: $2,160.

Income to date: $4,216.

We are projecting a year to date $400 shortfall.

Audit update: No update yet. Still pending

Vice President: No update

Other Reports:

Programming: (Frank) The speaker for December from NYC will be discussing various  photographic techniques. Judges were switched due to schedule needs. We need club members who are trained to fill in for judges when there is a last-minute cancelation. Lisa noted good quality of judges and speakers we have had to date.

Cable Release: Comments included that the issue looks good. There was a difficulty with listing the monthly field trip because it was not scheduled before the issue came out.

Nominations and Selections Committee: Currently, there isn’t a Nominations chair or committee. The group discussed ideas for finding a chair. There are people who are providing time and effort in the committee but no one has come forward to take on the title and task of committee chair. Kay Carkuff and Karen Finkelman have agreed to co-chair competitions.  They will take charge of Print Competition including getting results to Norm. Going forward, the committee includes the following group of people.  Larry will stay on long enough to help them get started.

  • Kay and Karen- continue presenting print images, photograph pages with winners, and get results to appropriate people.
  • Diane Sanders-Downloads digital images, sends emails to the photographers acknowledging the images and asking for resubmissions if needed (wrong image size or format). Arranges images for competition.  Lists digitals and sends them to Lisa A.
  • Lisa Auerbach- makes spreadsheets for digital pictures and sends results to the necessary people
  • Jim Riley-projectionist (includes videocam during print competition).  Sends winning projected images to Cable release.
  • Tom Allen-projectionist (includes videocam during print competition).  Sends winning projected images to Cable release.
  • Wendy Kates- defines themes and determine if an entry fits the guidelines.

Lisa moved for Board voted to approve co-chairs. Unanimously approved.

Field Trips: To Be announced. We need to check with Phil, who is currently ill.

Competition:

Mark: Discussed the need an intermediate division. It is too wide a gap. Catherine asked Mark to write a proposal. Discussion on considering how many people participate. 25 submissions in each category currently. Why can an individual compete in one category in projected and another in printed? The reason appears to be that it is based on points.

Membership:

List of members who dropped out will be emailed to try to get them back in. Bruce was asked to produce the list. Mark volunteered to do this blitz to give a “Welcome, we’re back” and we are meeting again in person” message.  The idea of reduced dues for returning members was discussed. Mark will work on an email message/blast. Proposal regarding reduced dues for returning members will be circulated to Board members.

Photo Forum: In December the three presentations will include: “Cropping in Lightroom Classic”  by Dave Mullen, “Evoke Depth with Vanishing Point Perspective – Plus Seven Other Techniques” by Tanya Riseman, “Some of the New Features in Lightroom and Photoshop” by Pete Morton. The discussion topics are  What do you enjoy shooting in winter?  Outdoors?  Indoors?

Other Topics:

Dave Powell Memorial: Discussion included ways to collect donations for the Dave Powell Memorial Fund to be given to Hungry for Music. The Club will collect checks and make a joint donation. Donors will need to write: for Dave Powell Memorial on the memo line on the checks. The deadline for collected checks will be  mid-January at the January competition night. A notice will be placed in the December Cable Release. Miriam will send to Cable Release editor info on Hungry for Music (web link). Members will also be able to make donations on their own.

AI article. Sherm to send out link to AI article, to prepare for larger discussion among members.
