COMPETITION RESULTS

OPEN COMPETITION – JANUARY 13, 2021

Two categories were judged: Advanced Projected (i.e. digital images) and Novice Projected. There were no Beginner Projected entries.  The Print categories are suspended until we start in-person meetings again. Awards in the Advanced and Novice categories are given for first, second, and third place, and multiple honorable mentions (HM) – the number of awards depends on the total number of entries in the category. Two HMs are given in the Beginner category if there are entries from more than one photographer. See an image that speaks to you? Let the photographer know the next chance you have!

I took this image in Washington Square Park in New York. Several chess games were in progress in the park, but this was the only one that had an interested observer. I was struck by the diversity of the players, accurately reflecting the culture of the park. Sony RX 10 IV, 600mm, f/8.0, ISO 640, 1/50s.

I found this Great Egret at Lake Frank in August. The sun was behind the grooming bird, and I tried to shoot carefully to get a nice back light but not blow out any part of the image. I saw two egrets at the lake in the late summer, but I've never seen them there at any other part of the year.
