Here’s one of our favorite outings in the summertime: Twilight Polo on Saturday nites in The Plains, VA:

The season starts in May, runs thru September 23. Cost is $40/carload, but Living Social sells passes for $25.

We make it a tailgate event: get there at 5;30 or so when the gates open, stay till after 10. We bring picnic fodder, set up a folding table and quad chairs, get comfortable. Others get by with picnic blankets on the grass. Wine is sold on the grounds by Greenhill Winery; food is sold sometimes but not always. Best to bring your own.
Photo ops are everywhere. You can stand by the rails and get the riders as they brush by you. Or you can shoot the crowd; people-watching is excellent.

We will try to organize a Club outing on one of these Saturdays, but meantime you can get out there on your own. Drive time from Silver Spring is about one hour each direction. Plan on some traffic on Route 66.
