Twilight Polo on Summer Saturdays – by Bruce Schaefer

Here’s one of our favorite outings in the summertime: Twilight Polo on Saturday nites in The Plains, VA:
The season starts in May, runs thru September 23. Cost is $40/carload, but Living Social sells passes for $25.
We make it a tailgate event: get there at 5;30 or so when the gates open, stay till after 10. We bring picnic fodder, set up a folding table and quad chairs, get comfortable. Others get by with picnic blankets on the grass. Wine is sold on the grounds by Greenhill Winery; food is sold sometimes but not always. Best to bring your own.
Photo ops are everywhere. You can stand by the rails and get the riders as they brush by you. Or you can shoot the crowd; people-watching is excellent.
These are the dates and themes this year; you can dress accordingly or not:
·         May 20 – Military Appreciation Night
·         May 27 – School Pride Night
·         June 3 – Red & White Night – Presented by Greenhill Winery & Vineyards
·         June 10 – Preppy in Pink for Ladies Night Out
·         June 17 – Disney
·         June 24 – Hawaiian Luau
·         July 15 – 70’s Disco
·         July 29 – Christmas in July
·         August 5 – Wizard of Oz
·         August 12 – WestWorld
·         August 19 – All White Party
·         August 26 – Fiesta
·         September 3 – Star Wars
·         September 10 – Antique Car Night
·         September 16 – Escape from the Zoo
·         September 23 – Grand Finale

We will try to organize a Club outing on one of these Saturdays, but meantime you can get out there on your own. Drive time from Silver Spring is about one hour each direction. Plan on some traffic on Route 66.

Below are some pics. Yours will be much better, of course.

By the way, this is a great family outing. If you have kids 4 thru 15, they will love it. [The teenagers will have lots of other teenagers to check out.] Read about it on the website, above.
