SSCC Board Meeting Minutes – September 22, 2016

The Board met on September 22, 2016.  The committee chair reports follow.

Treasurer’s Report

We have collected 53% of projected revenue from this date last year.  We have 9 fewer members as of this time last year.

Membership

There are seven new members, and 51 total members.  Most new members found us through Googling camera clubs and location, and a few found us through our Meetup site. There are now 210 followers on Meetup.  Our first social will be October 6 and the Board and chair committees will provide the food.

Field Trip

There is a tentative list of field trips and that will be uploaded to the Cable Release. Other locations were discussed as potential destinations.  Jim Turner has been sent our list of field trips to forward to NIH Camera Club.

Program

Judges have been established through March – working on judges for April.

Cable Release

Renee will feature new members in her column. There are 18 entries so far.

Seminar

Working on the concept of “Creative Accountability“ in which a buddy is assigned to assist members achieve their creative goals for a couple of months, a movie night that works like a book club, and other assignments to try various techniques and bring in the pictures to critique and discuss.

Competition

Nature is the next competition topic, and the definition of nothing manmade is deemed as “no hand of man is in evidence”, but could include domesticated animals (minus their collars, etc.).  There was a discussion of judged competitions as a special event open to the community to expand membership.  Members liked the ability to lay out the prints for competition night.

PSA

Loretta pointed out the value of PSA’s lending library and discussion forums, and suggested that interested members should look into these.

Other

Community involvement activities were discussed, and these included providing portraits for families in need.

A committee for nominations (to open positions) will bring a slate to present to members for endorsement.  This will help with nominations and recruitment.

The board members will write up position procedures for their positions for the next board meeting.  This is intended to help the transition of future new members of the Board and committees.

We need someone for social media including our Facebook presence.

Business cards are done.
