Board Meeting – November 30, 2017

The SSCC board met on November 30, 2017.  Fourteen board members and two visitors were in attendance.

Committee Chair and Other Reports:

Treasurer – There is a projected profit for the year end with a projected carry over of $2,613 in the operating account and $275 in the Honor Fund after the Award of $370 to The Wider Circle Project.

Field Trips: Washington DC at Night trip was a great success–Details discussed for Trip to
Mormon Temple.

Later in discussion, it was agreed that the field trip fee for non-members will go to their membership dues if they sign up at the time; Andrew and Phil will coordinate as field trip leaders.   

Honor Fund and Wider Circle:  The Honor Fund provided money for the Wider Circle Help Portrait Project. Discussion of Wider Circle Help Portrait family photo shoot on December 9th; Several SSCC members have volunteered to be photographers.  Several other members volunteered for other roles.    

PSA: Pete Morton reported that PSA has a lot of services members can use—for example, in education, there are online courses, competitions, and mentors to provide assistance. There is also a library of DVDs that can be used. In response to a question, Pete said the assistance provided is at all levels.      

Pete also indicated that there are 500 Camera clubs in PSA, and that there are groups to share and provide feedback photos.

Schedule: Reminder that there will be no Board meeting for December.

Maryland Photo Alliance: There will be a showing of work from the exhibition in Annapolis at the Statehouse; some of SSCC members work will be there.  

Main Topics for Discussion:

Membership:  Holiday Social schedule for December 7th.  The Social is a pot luck; everyone should bring something.  Sign-up sheet distributed.

Discussion of members from last year who have not yet renewed. Several Board members volunteered to call former members they knew to see whether they will return or why they left.

Wendy stated that she had obtained the membership information and was putting it on a spreadsheet—i.e. members interests, needs, etc.  She suggested that experienced members could volunteer to provide assistance mentorship.

Meetup:  SSCC Meetup has 378 members; 20 joined this month. Most are not club members. 

Lester Pickler ran the Montgomery County Photo Meetup; it was a generic photo Meetup that had events a few times a year.  He is getting out of it, and is willing to turn it over to us. There may be members who would be interested in joining a physical club.  Sue volunteered to work with Renee; they will get the list from Les Pickler and follow up.  

 Michael Koren has been creating events in Meetup and passing them on to Sue, but she would like to fill up the calendar earlier so people can plan. She would like info sent to her through Dennis well before the end of the month. It was agreed that info for meetings, field trips, etc. will go to both Dennis and Sue two weeks ahead of the new month, so that it can go into Meetup in advance.

It was also agreed that reminders would be sent out the week before; this will allow club to stay ahead of meet up events.  

Constitution Review: A committee will review the Constitution and By-Laws for any required or recommended updates.  The committee will consist of Phil Boyer, Bruce Schaeffer and Mark Paster. Phil and Mark will work on it over the holiday.

Liability Insurance:  Catherine is looking into Directors and Officers Liability; she will submit info to get a quote.    

Zed’s Coffee House: Gene reminded the board that Zed’s Coffee House willing to show SSCC work.  Wall paint color and space requirements need to be reviewed. Gene and Phil will check it out over the holidays.

Projector: Discussion of not selling, but keeping, for A Closer Focus.

Locking Cabinet: Renee and Bruce agreed to look into getting a locking cabinet.
