During a recent trip to India, I was captivated by the alleyways that offered a more personal glimpse into daily life within the city. This photo was taken in one of those alleys in Delhi while we were riding in a pedicab to our next stop. In the midst of the city’s high energy, the man’s distant gaze and the calm of the back alley offered a moment of unexpected stillness.

Thomas Allen ~ Rehearsal Room
Prague, Czech Republic, 2000 This shot was among the last taken with my Canon EOS 630 35mm film camera before moving to Digital (Canon 10D) in 2003. This rehearsal room was housed in one of the towers at each end of the Charles Bridge (completed in 1402) spanning the Vltava River that runs through the center of Prague. Prague is such a wonderful city to photograph with its landscapes and architecture that dates back to a time before Columbus set sail. As well, there is a rich musical heritage in Prague, leading me to wonder, did Vivaldi compose an opera in this room? (Canon 630/no metadata available).

The image was taken at the Wakodahatchee wetlands in Florida midway between Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Although I was there during the January-February mating season and saw the very orange dorsal crest of the male green iguana and witnessed the unique head bobbing movements and the extension of the neck dewlap, I considered other aspects of the iguana. The armor-like scales take on texture in black and white. The regal pose is emphasized by the lack of background distraction and the black is more imposing than “nature green”.

Will Rabinovich ~ Narada Falls
This is Narada Falls in Mount Rainer National Park. The color version of this image was actually quite an ordinary “grab shot”. So I converted it to monochrome and did some pretty extensive masked adjustments to emphasize the waterfall. Taken with a Sony A7riv and a Tamron 20-40 mm lens at 27 mm

Ilona Linnoila ~ Filing Abandoned
I took this picture two summers ago on a tour of the abandoned Cresson sanatorium in Lilly, PA which was converted to a prison in 1987. I think it is kind of timely. Later on, the prison closed in 2013 so abruptly that the personnel found it out only from inmates who were watching TV in their cells at the time. No wonder, there were abandoned filing cabinets. And fast forward a few decades, who knows if there are more abandoned filing cabinets in somewhere, again. Sony a6300; GM 24 mm F1.4 Lens; 1/160 sec; 24 mm; f 5.6; ISO 400.
