Board Meeting Minutes

April 24, 2025
Silver Spring Camera Club Board Meeting 

Location: Zoom Meeting
Start Time: 7:35 PM, adjourned 8:30 PM. 

Board Members in Attendance: Dennis Freeman, Bruce Schaefer, Phil Boyer, Kay Carkhuff, Bob Catlett, Pete Morton, Tanya Riseman, Maurice Belanger, Frank Gallagher, Michael Koren, and Will Rabinovich.

Not in Attendance: Catherine Honigsberg, Lisa Auerbach, Sherm Edwards, Norm Bernache, and Gerry Woods.

 
The meeting was called to order at 7:35. Dennis read the minutes of the March SSCC Board meeting

Committee Chair Reports:

Vice President: Dennis reported on plans for the Photo Forum for May. There will be two presentations, “Tuscany and Venice” by Sherm Edwards and “Creating Impressionistic Images with In-the-Round Multiple Exposures” by Wendy Kates. 

Dennis reported on End of the Year Activities: Prints will be collected at the May 8 competition meeting. Projected titles will be submitted electronically by Fri, May 9.  Norm will do End of Year points calculations after the May 8 competition. Frank has acquired a judge, and is providing David Terao’s contact information so as to coordinate a good day and time for judging at David’s house.   Dennis will determine the points-based winners from Norm’s data.   Catherine will send out a voting request for the Service Award. Kay is working on obtaining door prizes from various businesses. Tom Allen volunteered to organize images and operate the laptop during the End of Year.  Dennis will provide awards information to Catherine so she can print the certificates. Winning projected images will be provided to the volunteer projectionist. Information regarding the End of the Year plans, including a Google Docs Signup and Volunteer Sheet, have been submitted to the May Cable Release.

Dennis will send out a draft EoY schedule with speaking parts for editing by each participant.  (Draft was reviewed via screen share).  

Maurice Belanger volunteered to handle the EoY Membership speaking part. 

Pete volunteered to do EoY Trivia games.

Treasurer: Bruce reported on current revenue. Current Income: $4,337. Current Expenses: $4,468. Current operating Profit projected: ($131). We have a total of 84 members (15 new).  Looking at $600-$700 expenses through the end of the year: 2 judges, P.O. Box fee, and Zoom fee. 

Cable Release: Tanya is finalizing the May issue.

Nominations and Selections Committee: [we forgot to cover this – Dennis since eBlasted the slate to membership on Fri, April 25.]

Field Trips: Phil reported that the Yellow Dog ghost town/Carrie Furnace near Pittsburgh will be on May 31-June 1. Several options for June and July. 

Website, Meetup, Facebook, Twitter: Website: Will be working this summer to help sort out our pages.  

Competition: 21 possible competition topic ideas (from members attending the last Photo Forum) for the 3 open competition topic slots for 2025-2026 club year were presented over Zoom.  Each board member was asked to vote for their favorite five topics. The results were accrued and the three with the most votes determined as the winners:

  • Night Photography
  • Leading Lines
  • Photos from SSCC Field Trips

Kay will write up draft definitions and Pete will give feedback. 

Membership: Maurice has been checking our Meetup attendees for new people. While we have had one new person join the club, none are from Meetup.  Bruce will put Maurice on distribution list of registration forms.
