Steve Gottlieb

Steve Gottlieb is the photographer and author of the widely acclaimed books, Abandoned America: American Icons, Washington: Portrait of a City, and Flush: Celebrating Bathrooms Past & Present. Literally thousands of his photographs from his books and commercial and editorial assignments have been published worldwide. Gottlieb’s images have been recognized with such awards as “Advertising Photograph of the Year” in both NYC and Washington, D.C.

A graduate of Columbia University College and Law School, Gottlieb practiced law in private
firms and with the federal government for ten years before turning his photography hobby into a vocation. For this environmental/corporate attorney turned professional photographer, capturing our capital city in new and fresh ways has been a three decades-long project. Popular Photography described his work as “cityscapes that … evade every cliché.”

In 2005, after twenty years as a commercial photographer and author, Steve turned his attention to creating a photography workshop. Horizon Photography Workshops emphasize fieldwork where students have the best opportunity to learn alongside their teachers and have the most fun. Time is also spent in the classroom, where critiques of student work are always a highlight. The Horizon team is committed to making each student’s experience a special time of learning.
