State of the Camera Industry

Please join us for an informative presentation on the state of the camera industry by Burke Seim, owner and President of Service Photo. Service Photo has been working closely with photographers since 1948.  Burke purchased the business in 1991 and has done whatever it takes to survive in the ever-changing world of photography and retail in the past 28 years.  Service Photo is now Maryland’s only specialty camera dealer, providing photographers throughout the region with all types of new and used products, camera gear rentals and equipment repair.

Burke will discuss and demonstrate many new photography products currently being introduced to the industry.  And while he’ll talk about the gear that helps photographers realize their visions, he will also talk about the changes seen over the last 30 years in the photo industry.  Burke will explain why there are so few camera stores still left in operation and why big national chains like Ritz Camera, and the large regional stores like Penn Camera in the MD/DC/VA area are no longer in existence. Burke will explain how the photography industry works, and help photographers better understand the industry that fuels their passion.  His insights will help photographers find the best products for their needs, at the lowest prices available, while avoiding many common pitfalls of buying in an internet world.
