John Hoover – Judge: Cityscapes, January 9

On January 9, 2020 John Hoover will judge the SSCC Cityscapes competition.

John Hoover is the Instructional Lab Coordinator for Photography at Montgomery College in Rockville. He also works as a freelance and assignment photographer specializing in portraits, travel, and architectural photography. Before that John served as Director of Photography at The Metropolitan Center for the Visual Arts (VisArts), a non-profit community arts center located in Rockville.

In 2009, in a partnership with The Center for Adoption Support and Education (C.A.S.E.) funded by a grant from the Trawick Foundation, John taught photography to adolescents enrolled in the Leadership Empowerment and Action Program (LEAP). This is a youth development program for foster and adopted youths and their families in Montgomery County.

John has also been a guest speaker at the Washington DC – Travel and Adventure Show in 2013, 2014, and 2015.

John has received the Excellence in the Arts and Humanities Award by the Montgomery County Arts and Humanities Council. He was recognized for the contributions he has made in improving the Photography Department at VisArts to the point of national recognition among professional photographers and industry specialists.
