January 19 Field Trip to Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

 

Name of Trip: Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center 

Date: Sunday, January 19:  In case of forecasted winter weather, a cancellation call will be made on Saturday, Jan 18 and updated in Meetup and in an SSCC email blast.  

Time: 9:30 a.m. carpool or 11:00 a.m. meet at at the museum.

Carpool Location/Time:

Meet at the Forest Glen Metro Parking Lot at 9:30 a.m.:

 2100 Walsh View Terrace, Silver Spring, MD 20910

Note that the entrance to the lot is from Kimball Pl in the back, and not from Walsh View Terrace or Forest Glen Rd.

Meet on the north side of the lot, near the trees and the lot entrance.

 

Overview:  Hundreds of aircraft and spacecraft are on display in two massive hangars, including a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the Boeing B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay, and the Space Shuttle Discovery. View aircraft flying in and out of Dulles International Airport from our Observation Tower.    Tips:  visiting-tips

 

Photography:  No Tripods or Monopods Allowed!  All visitors must pass through security screening upon entry. The fewer carry-on items you bring inside the Museum, the faster your entry (and visitors behind you). Before you visit, please review the list of prohibited items, which include pocket knives and tripods. Visitors carrying prohibited items will not be allowed inside the Museum, so please leave them at home or in your car.

  • From Washington, DC, and points north: Take I-495 West (Capital Beltway) to the Dulles Toll Road West (Route 267). Exit the toll road at Route 28 South (Exit 9A) and travel south 3.5 miles. Exit at Air and Space Museum Parkway and follow the signs to the Udvar-Hazy Center. Please note, online mapping services may direct you to enter the Udvar-Hazy Center from Route 50. This is not a public entrance. You must enter from Route 28.
