Board Meeting – April 26, 2018

The SSCC board met on April 26, 2018.  Thirteen board members and two club members were in attendance.

Committee Chairs and Other Reports:

Treasurer:  For the year to date we have 95 members, 31 of them are new; From January to March there were no speaker fee expenses (declined by speakers), leading to a $722 profit.  There is a carry-over for next year of $3,087.  As a result, we can easily afford to purchase liability insurance.

Programming: We have judges and speakers lined up for the rest of the calendar year.

Field Trips: The field trip to Ellicott City was a huge success with 14 attendees: Andrew reported in 2 trips in May:

  • May 5 Baltimore Kinectic Sculpture Race
  • May 6—Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival

Website: No report.

Cable Release:

Catherine proposed adding an Editorial Calendar for the club year. Each Month one member will write an article with pictures. This will assist the editor in gathering content. Phil Boyer will plan to contribute an article in October on Photography in the English Moors.   

Nominations:  

The slate is President – Catherine Honigsberg, Vice President – Tanya Riseman, Secretary – Open, Treasurer – Bruce Schaefer, Directors: Bob Catlett, Michael Koren, and Pete Morton (new). The slate will be announced in the Cable Release with a solicitation for other nominees, and possibly back-ups for other positions.  Election is planned for Competition Night (best chance for a quorum).

Competition:

For year-end event, the forms for prints will be in the Cable Release and on the website;
On request, Norm will provide members a list of what they submitted for competitions within the past year.  Larry will provide the standard operating procedure for the competition.

The board compiled the list of topics for next year’s competitions submitted by members and voted on next year’s topics. The topics will be presented in the next Cable Release so members will have them for the summer.

Membership:

We have 95 members of whom 31 are new.

Sue will give the new membership chair the email addresses of the guests who came at the end of the year to invite them to join the new club year.

The biggest meeting attendance was the night with the street photography speaker, Essdras Suarez, at 48 attendees.  There is an average of 26 members and 2 guests across all meetings.

Honor Fund: No report.

 

PSA: The Cable Release was submitted for the PSA newsletter competition.  Still waiting for results on the website competition.

 

Year-End Event: 

  • The judge has been selected; secret judging will take place at David Terao’s house on May 17th.  No audience, please. 
  • End of Year Celebration at the church will be June 14th from 6:30 -10 p.m.  Set up begins at 5:30 p.m.
  • Tanya is still looking for people to help with clean-up.
  • On May 31 there will be an organizational meeting for anyone who is helping out
  • No entrance fee but accepting donations
  • Raffle/ door prizes: B&H sent a light gadget. Discussion of cost for raffle—it will be $5.

Constitution Review: Final version distributed; will go to members in the Cable Release, vote on Competition Night
